Timeless Teachings in a Changing World

Science.  Catholic education has stayed the course in its tradition of bringing the absolute best teaching practices, latest curriculum, and technology to every student.  St. Catherine's follows the learning standards set by the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Illinois State Board of Education.  What makes us unique?  Our faculty take the time to meet the learning needs of each student by contouring lessons, classwork, and homework to bring academic success.  We can't do it alone though!  We are blessed with the most wonderful volunteer staff that is wholeheartedly committed to advancing student learning.  Both reading and math tutoring happen during the school day complimented by our after school tutors that help students with homework.

Personalized learning at St. Catherine-St. Lucy School is a cutting-edge educational approach designed to tailor instruction, resources, and support to each student’s unique needs, strengths, and interests. This innovative method has significantly transformed our educational landscape, allowing students to progress at their own pace, engage deeply with the content, and reach their full potential by addressing their learning styles and goals.


Piloted in 2017 following a $1 million grant to the Archdiocese of Chicago from the CME Group Foundation, the program initially focused on 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Since then, we have observed remarkable academic growth, with our pilot group of students achieving nearly a 40% improvement in reading skills within just four months.

What does "Blended Learning" do for students?

Blended learning combines the best teaching methods with an online education technology tool. The framework for this learning environment calls for formal and informal learning, social learning, and individual learning. There are opportunities to learn, create, and share in a supportive and collaborative environment that is personalized for every student.

What does "Blended Learning" look like in the classroom?

Every student is a part of a classroom environment that focuses on learning experiences that meet them where they are academically. For instance, there are specific learning benchmarks that students need to meet to build a foundation for the next grade level, but not every student learns in the same way. Our teachers are specially trained to provide individualized instruction across all subjects and we have LEXIA, a cloud-based, reading software where each student has their account. Each student begins by completing an assessment (test) to determine what reading level they are at. Then, the software notes what reading level to begin at and helps the student develop solid reading skills to advance their reading level. This software was carefully selected among several outstanding technology pieces and will have a positive impact on every student.
